The User Account Control (UAC) is part of the Windows Vista operating system. The purpose of UAC is to increase the security of Windows by restricting applications to the standard user privileges until an admin authorizes the change in the privilege level. In other words, you may have administrator privileges, but an application that you run does not until you authorizes it explicitly to have higher privileges. This is similar to what happens in Linux.

Turn off UACI think that it is a good improvement to the security of Windows, but sometimes it can get really annoying! It can be turned off, but that is not recommended of course. The funny thing is that if you try to turn it off, it will ask you for your authorization! :D
